Modern Vernacular

Planners can approve modern design

The scheme is for 2 separate houses and an associated garage block and is designed around a U-shaped courtyard. The scheme addresses the client’s desire for a contemporary home and the demands of the planning authority for a vernacular use of materials and the massing to reflect local farm buildings.

I was more than pleased with the overall outcome of the scheme and somewhat shocked that such a controversial proposal gained planning permission with no compromise on design – something that is very rare in this area of the world. My message to others that are practising in the area – good design can prevail.
